In the 1930’s and 40’s, Honeymoon Island was owned by a millionaire who created a Honeymoon contest for newlyweds. Winners of the contest had the opportunity to stay in their own one room hut (there were several on the island) for a week, hence the name Honeymoon Island!
Fast forward a few decades and the island huts are long gone, but the Honeymoon name and tradition of love remains. Honeymoon Island is popular beach wedding venue and hosts hundreds of weddings each year. In addition, couples can enjoy a relaxing day at the beach, kayak around the island or even enjoy a private beachside dinner for two.

Sand Key Beach: Love Clearwater Beach, but don’t want the crowd that comes with it for a proposal? Sand Key Beach is the perfect choice! You’ll have the same stunning views with a smaller (and therefore, quieter) crowd, making the moment feel more private.
Downtown Dunedin
Downtown Dunedin: If you two are into long walks or bike rides, use the Pinellas Trail and make your way to downtown Dunedin. This charming town has plenty of small shops and restaurants to explore and if you come during the weekend, there could be a craft festival or farmer’s market to check out. If you and your special someone love small towns, downtown Dunedin is a great place to propose. You’re never more than a short walk to the waterfront, a perfect backdrop.
